President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev reviewed the results of exit polls conducted during the national referendum.
“Today, we have witnessed a historic event for our country. The citizens of Kazakhstan participated in the referendum and supported the constitutional reform. They cast their votes for the future of our Motherland. Exit poll results have just been released, and we can confidently say that Kazakhstan has made its historic choice in favor of the new Constitution. Our people have pre-determined the further course of history and the fate of Kazakhstan. From now on, March 15 will be celebrated as one of our main holidays - Constitution Day. Our compatriots voted for the renewal and modernization of the country. This is our shared achievement. I sincerely congratulate all of you on this significant event!” the Head of State said.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that the national referendum was held at the highest level, openly and fairly. Both domestic and foreign observers noted that all legal requirements and democratic norms were strictly observed.
“The final results of the citizens' expression of will will be officially summed up by the Central Referendum Commission in accordance with the law. However, we can already say that the citizens of Kazakhstan have demonstrated an example of unity, solidarity, patriotism, and shared responsibility for the fate of the Motherland. The overwhelming majority of our citizens have chosen the bright path of Progress, Justice, Law, Order, environmental care, and purity. This is a very good path. This People's Constitution will lead us to new achievements and successes; there is no doubt about it. For Kazakhstan to become a progressive, advanced, and competitive country, it is exceptionally important for us to maintain peace and friendship, and to show patience, persistence, creativity, diligence, hard work, and responsibility,” the President noted.
According to the Head of State, the Constitution, which received nationwide support and was approved by the will of the citizens, is an important landmark on our state's path of development.
“The new Constitution is the foundation of our Independence and Sovereignty. The Basic Law is the guarantee of human rights and freedoms. As a single nation, we have taken an important step towards building a just society where Law and Order are strictly observed, and citizens possess high responsibility and creativity. Today we have opened a new page in the history of the country. Large-scale work lies ahead. Most importantly: our people support deep transformations. I am sincerely convinced that by joining forces for the sake of common interests, we will leave a Progressive and Advanced Kazakhstan to future generations. I express my sincere gratitude to the youth who took an active part in the referendum! Congratulations to everyone on the adoption of the new Constitution!” declared Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
According to preliminary exit poll data, 86.7% of citizens who participated in the national referendum supported the adoption of the new Constitution.
The Institute for Comprehensive Social Research Astana "Socis-A" also conducted a survey on the day of the referendum.
According to its results, around 87% of voters had backed the new constitution. Turnout stood at 73%, the electoral commission earlier said.
Based on exit poll results from the Institute of Public Policy, 88.6% of those surveyed supported the new Constitution. 24,000 people participated in the study, and turnout was 72.1%.
Exit polls do not constitute official voting results. The final results of the referendum will be announced by the Central Referendum Commission after the vote count is completed.
