Major sporting events of 2024 named

Kazakh athletes begin 2024 with participation in the IV Winter Youth Olympic Games, which will be held in the city of Gangwon-do, South Korea, from January 19 to February 1. The Kazakh team won 30 licenses in five sports, divided into 10 disciplines, and will be represented by 42 athletes, El.kz reports citing the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

In addition to the Winter Games, the main sporting event of the year for Kazakhstan will be the Summer Olympic Games in Paris. These games will be held from July 26 to August 11 and will bring together over 10 thousand athletes from 205 countries. The program of the Games includes 329 sets of medals in 32 sports. The national team of Kazakhstan plans to participate in 20 sports and has already won 17 licenses in eight disciplines. Preparations are underway for 90 licensed competitions to increase the number of qualifying tickets.

This year, special attention is also paid to the V World Nomad Games, which will be held in Astana from 8 to 14 September. More than 100 countries are expected to participate. The competition will include 20 competitive and 10 demonstration sports with 110 sets of medals up for grabs, including equestrian sports and traditional intellectual games. The national team of Kazakhstan is being trained.

The Women's World Boxing Championships are scheduled to be held in Astana, as announced at a meeting of the International Boxing Association in Tashkent. The prize pool of the tournament will be $4.8 million, with a grand prize of $200 thousand for the winner.

Finally, Astana will also host the World SAMBO Championships in November 2024. At the previous championship in Yerevan, the Kazakh team took third place, winning one gold, two silver and five bronze medals
