Shezhire in AI era: Maksat Zhabagin on preserving national digital heritageLotus Fest-2026 was held on 15–16 August in the Atyrau region and attracted over 40,000 visitors over the two days. The event was aimed at introducing tourists to the lotus fields along the Kigach River and increasing interest in the region, El.kz reports citing the press service of the Kazakh Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
Lotus fields emerge as a tourist attraction
The organisers placed particular emphasis on the region’s natural attraction. The blooming pink lotus fields along the Kigach River are regarded as a promising destination for domestic tourism and an additional platform for the development of local businesses.
During the festival, visitors had access to retail pavilions, fairs, food courts and photo zones. Fifty entrepreneurs showcased their products and services, while play areas were arranged for children.
Music, fairs and a gala concert
The business and entertainment components of the programme complemented each other. Local and emerging performers, as well as well-known Kazakhstani artists, took to the festival stage.
Participants of different ages took part in Lotus run
The Lotus Run sporting event was another highlight of the festival programme. A total of 94 participants completed the 3 km distance, representing different age categories.
The oldest participant was 82 years old. The race was organised to promote active outdoor recreation and encourage public participation in mass sports.
Tourists can view the lotus fields during boat trips along the Kigach River. The blooming period of the pink lotuses is expected to continue until approximately the first week of September.
