Kazakhstan joined the Global Methane Pledge last year, recognizing the oil and gas sector as a key area for reducing methane emissions. The head of KMG expressed gratitude to IFC for its support in the development of the first methane emissions reporting and implementation plan sent to UNEP within the framework of the OGMP 2.0 (The Oil & Gas Methane Partnership) in May this year.
At the meeting, Ms. Hela Sheichrouh confirmed IFC's readiness to provide significant technical and consulting support in the preparation of KMG's second OGMP 2.0 report and implementation plan in 2025.
The joint efforts of the parties will be aimed at analyzing and developing methods to reduce methane emissions, with the financial support of IFC. Issues of strengthening state regulation and setting goals to reduce carbon dioxide and methane emissions in the oil and gas industry of Kazakhstan were also discussed.
