Kazakhstan’s Torekhan Sabyrkhan wins Asian Games Gold

Kazakh boxer Torekhan Sabyrkhan has won the gold medal at the XX Asian Summer Games in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan. In the final of the men’s 70 kg weight category, he defeated Jordan’s Zeyad Eashash.

Sabyrkhan took the initiative from the opening seconds and was awarded the first round by all three judges. He maintained his advantage in the second round, while the Jordanian boxer was deducted a point for a rule violation.

In the final round, the Kazakh boxer focused on defensive tactics and secured a confident victory. The final score was 5:0.

Revenge for April Defeat

The bout was particularly significant for Sabyrkhan. In April, at the Asian Boxing Championships in Ulaanbaatar, he lost to Eashash in the final of the same weight category, taking the silver medal. It was the only defeat of his senior career.

The 20-year-old Kazakh boxer holds the World Boxing world champion title, which he won last year. Eashash claimed a bronze medal at the same championships.

Road to Gold

In the Round of 16, Sabyrkhan defeated Qatar’s Mohammed Dbichi by unanimous decision. In the quarterfinal, he knocked out an Iraqi boxer in the opening minute of the bout.

In the semifinal, the Kazakh boxer defeated Uzbekistan’s Shavkatjon Boltayev by a score of 5:0.

Significance of the Medal

According to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the medal marks Kazakhstan’s first gold medal in boxing at the Asian Games in 12 years. The last time Kazakh boxers reached the top step of the Asian Games podium was in Incheon. At the Jakarta and Hangzhou Games, Kazakhstan’s boxing team did not win a gold medal.

Sabyrkhan’s victory marks Kazakhstan’s tenth gold medal at the Asian Games in Japan. The national team has also secured 19 silver medals.
