Kazakhstan's Mikhail Shaidorov made proud showing in men's short program

Performing to "Dune" by Hans Zimmer,  Kazakh figure skater Mikhail Shaidorov scored 92.94 points and round out the top five  in the men's short program in Milan, El.kz reports.

It was a truly magical routine: Mikhail showed he is a talent to watch, with an impressive array of jumps. Tears from the coaching staff confirmed that the performance was a success.

He executed some of the most technically demanding elements, including a quadruple Lutz-triple toeloop combination.

Reaction from experts and fans

International experts praised the Kazakh skater’s performance. Analyst Jackie Wong noted that it was one of Shaidorov’s most confident skates of the season.

“It was very nerve-wracking because this is not the World Championship, this is the Olympic Games. So that’s actually really hard. But I was able to overcome the nerves that I had. I was able to skate, enjoy it, and do a good job. And there was nothing more to do than what I can do—not trying to do more than I can do, just to do what I can do.”

“I was able to calm down my nerves, but I won’t tell how. Actually, all my practices were perfect, and maybe that’s what made me a little bit nervous, because everything was so perfect.”

On preparing for the free skate and the schedule

“Preparing for the free skating is unusual because we have two days in between. I think I’ve never had that before. But I believe that is a plus for me, because tomorrow I will have some rest. Here, it’s really a lot of nerves, and I’m happy that I was able to overcome it. Now I can go home and sleep calmly.”

From fifth after the short program to the podium

In Olympic figure skating history, everything is often decided on the second day of competition.

In the era of ultra-difficult jumps, the free skate has become the decisive stage and no one is immune to mistakes or falls.

To reach the podium, Shaidorov will need to deliver the best free program of his career.
