Kazakhstan’s GDP increased by 4.1%

According to preliminary data, Kazakhstan’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the period of January–June 2026 amounted to 70.9 trillion tenge. The figure increased by 4.1% compared to the same period last year.

The highest growth in real terms was recorded in the construction sector, which expanded by 15.2%. Manufacturing increased by 9.8%, transport and warehousing by 7.1%, wholesale and retail trade (including motor vehicle and motorcycle repair) by 5.7%, and agriculture, forestry, and fisheries by 4.4%.

Structure of the economy

In the GDP structure for the first half of the year, the production of goods accounted for 36.4%, while the production of services accounted for 55.4%. Industry remains the largest sector of the Kazakhstani economy, contributing 28.6% to the total GDP volume.

The ratio between the goods and services sectors indicates that services continue to represent more than half of the national economy, while industry maintains its dominant role within the goods-producing sector.

Key contributors to growth

The manufacturing industry provided the most significant contribution to GDP growth, adding 1.25 percentage points. Wholesale and retail trade contributed 0.93 percentage points, followed by construction with an additional 0.79 percentage points.

The combined contribution of these three sectors exceeds 2.9 percentage points of the total 4.1% growth, establishing them as the primary drivers of Kazakhstan’s economy in the first half of 2026. The accelerated growth of the construction sector relative to other industries is also consistent with the active phase of large-scale infrastructure projects currently being implemented across the country.
