Kazakhstanis undergo ETL developer course for free

Kazakhstan continues to enroll students in IT training programs under the state-funded Tech Orda initiative, El.kz reports.

One of the tracks available to beginners is a course designed to train ETL developers.

The program is aimed at those who are just starting to study IT and want to acquire a practical profession related to data processing and transformation.

The course focuses on specialists who set up processes for extracting, transforming, and loading data into analytical systems.

Such developers are in demand among companies that work with large volumes of data — from banks and telecom operators to e-commerce businesses and government systems.

The training program is designed for beginners and does not require entrance exams. The course lasts 26 weeks and includes 104 academic hours. Classes are held in a hybrid format, combining online and offline sessions, which allows students to study without fully leaving their job or education.

Students learn to work with SQL, to manage data models in data warehouses, and get acquainted with the industrial ETL tool Informatica PowerCenter. Upon completion of the course, graduates receive the qualification of Junior ETL Developer.

The class schedule includes either two 1.5-hour lessons per week or one longer session, making the timetable relatively flexible.

The full cost of the course is 400,000 tenge. The training is funded under the Tech Orda program, which subsidizes IT talent development in private schools across Kazakhstan.

For online and hybrid formats, the program covers up to 400,000 tenge, allowing students to complete the course without additional expenses. However, a refundable security deposit of 50,000 tenge is required. This amount is returned to the student after completing the course and successfully passing the final test.

This mechanism serves as a filter against random applications and encourages participants to complete the program.

The program is open to citizens of Kazakhstan aged 18 to 45. No prior IT experience is required, although applicants are advised to carefully review the terms of the specific course and school before applying.

Applications are submitted and processed through the IT school showcase on the Astana Hub portal.

Training under the Tech Orda quota lasts six months or longer, depending on the chosen specialization. After completing the course, graduates are not required to work for a specific company — the program does not impose any post-training obligations.

Conditions for early withdrawal and possible penalties depend on the specific school and are outlined in the contract. Therefore, prospective students are advised to clarify all details in advance before starting the course.

The demand for data specialists in Kazakhstan is growing alongside the digitalization of business and government services. Companies increasingly need not just developers, but professionals who can build reliable data pipelines for analytics and decision-making.

An ETL developer is a practical technical role that may not often be in the spotlight, yet consistently appears in job listings at large companies. This is why such courses focus on hands-on experience and real tools rather than abstract theory.
