Kazakhstanis less likely to send money abroad

The volume of international money transfers through money transfer systems in Kazakhstan has decreased, El.kz reports citing ranking.kz.

Thus, the volume of funds sent abroad through the transfer systems in January-October 2023 amounted to 806.9 billion tenge, which is 7.2% less compared to the same period last year.

The volume of money received from abroad decreased by 2.2 times compared to January-October 2022, amounting to 258.5 billion tenge for 10 months of this year.

In the context of countries, more than half of the funds sent from Kazakhstan in January-October 2023 fell on only two - Uzbekistan and Russia: 232.8 billion and 195.2 billion tenge, respectively. Significant volumes were also sent to Turkey (184.5 billion tenge) and Georgia (76.7 billion tenge).

More than a third of the total amount of funds received through the transfer system was transferred from Russia: 94.2 billion tenge. Another third in total accounted for Uzbekistan (28.5 billion tenge), the United States (27.8 billion tenge) and South Korea (27.4 billion tenge).

Among money transfer systems, the largest volume of money transfers sent abroad fell on Zolotaya Korona: 643.4 billion tenge, which is 4.8% less than in January-October 2022. At the same time, the share of the system increased from 77.8% to 79.7%. It is followed by Contact (93.4 billion tenge), Western Union (46.3 billion tenge) and MoneyGram (13.1 billion tenge). Other systems accounted for 10.8 billion tenge.
