Kazakhstan wins silver at the Chess Olympiad

The Kazakhstan women’s national chess team has secured the silver medal at the Chess Olympiad, El.kz reports.

The competition was held from 16 to 27 September in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Nearly 400 teams competed in the open and women’s sections.

In Round 11, Kazakhstan’s women’s team faced Poland. Yelnaz Kaliakhmet won her game, while Bibisara Assaubayeva and Meruert Kamalidenova drew their games. Alua Nurman suffered her first defeat of the Olympiad. The match ended in a 2–2 draw.

After 11 rounds, Kazakhstan earned 18 points and finished second among 189 women’s national teams. China won the gold medal, while India took bronze.

The Kazakhstan team remained unbeaten in team matches throughout the tournament, recording seven wins and four draws.

The silver medal marks the Kazakhstan women’s national team’s second consecutive silver at the Chess Olympiad. In 2024, the team finished second at the Olympiad in Budapest, and two years later repeated the achievement in Samarkand.

The Kazakhstan team was represented by Bibisara Assaubayeva, Alua Nurman, Meruert Kamalidenova, Yelnaz Kaliakhmet and Zarina Nurgaliyeva. The team captain was Pavel Kotsur.
