Shezhire in AI era: Maksat Zhabagin on preserving national digital heritageKazakhstan will establish a national Wi-Fi operator, El.kz reports.
The country will introduce a single national Wi-Fi provider that will offer free internet access at socially significant facilities — including border checkpoints, airports, railway and bus stations, as well as schools and medical institutions.
At the first stage, the project will cover 400 locations across 10 cities in Kazakhstan. By 2027, the network is expected to expand to 20,000 access points, according to the government’s press service.
In addition, the launch of VoWiFi (Voice over Wi-Fi) technology is planned for 2026. This will allow users to make and receive voice calls through any available Wi-Fi network.
The new infrastructure will ensure equal access to digital services and foster regional development as part of the national digitalization program.
