Kazakhstan to increase funding for youth sports

Kazakh President Kassym Jomart Tokayev has signed the Law "On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Kazakhstan Regarding Support for the Tourism Industry and Youth Sports." This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The document provides for a transition to per-capita normative funding for youth sports schools. The bill is aimed at modernizing the support system for youth sports.

Funding per athlete

Following the introduction of the new model, expenditures per student at sports schools will increase significantly. The volume of funds for an athlete's maintenance will nearly double, increasing from the current 233,000 tenge to an average of 415,000 tenge per year.

Why the system is changing

The transition to per-capita funding will allow for a more efficient distribution of budget funds and improve the level of support for youth sports. This system allocates funds based specifically on the number of active athletes.

Implementation timeline

The implementation of this reform will require additional spending. The necessary funds are planned to be allocated from local budgets.

These expenditures have already been approved by the Republican Budget Commission. The implementation of the project  is planned for 2026.
