Kazakhstan takes part in workshop on issues of itellectual property and anti-counterfeiting in CA

The workshop on the issues of intellectual property and anti-counterfeiting in Central Asia, organized by the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) and the US Department of Commerce, was held in Geneva at the headquarters of the World Trade Organization, El.kz cites MFA.

The purpose of this workshop is the training of government officials from Central Asian countries on best practices in IP protection, in particular in combating the import and export of counterfeit goods and illicit trade in them. The training was conducted by experts from the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and other international organizations.

The workshop covered a wide range of issues related to IP protection, including the role of international organizations in IP protection, as well as illicit trade, including the growing e-commerce trade. Participants were also briefed on measures to prevent, detect and suppress counterfeit products at both global, regional and national levels.

The need to improve regulatory mechanisms to protect IP and combat counterfeit products was discussed, as was the importance of involving all stakeholders: government agencies, businesses, NGOs and experts.

During the interactive dialogue, representatives of Central Asian countries, including Kazakhstan, provided detailed information on the priorities of their countries in the field of IP protection and anti-counterfeiting.

From the Kazakh side, the workshop was attended by senior officials from the State Revenue Committee and the Customs Operations Department of the Ministry of Finance, the Intellectual Property Rights Department of the Ministry of Justice and the Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The delegation of Kazakhstan expressed its interest in cooperation in the field of IP protection and combating counterfeit products. The representatives of our country noted that the national legislation of Kazakhstan is harmonized with the 19 basic WIPO treaties and the TRIPS Agreement of WTO in accordance with the undertaken commitments. They introduced the participants to the implementation of the Roadmap for the Further Development of Intellectual Property in Kazakhstan for 2022-2024. The workshop organizers showed great interest in this Intellectual Property Roadmap and asked for a copy of it.

At the end of the meeting, the CLDP management expressed its intention to continue working with representatives of Central Asian countries on IP protection and combating the spread of counterfeit products.
