Kazakhstan takes part in the UNECE Regional Forum

The Regional Forum on Sustainable Development in the region of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe was held in Switzerland, in which Kazakhstan was represented by Vice Minister of National Economy Bauyrzhan Omarbekov and Director of the Department of Social Policy and Development of State Bodies of the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurgul Zhannazarova, El.kz reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Vice Minister told the Forum participants about the ongoing work of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan to promote the SDGs at the national and regional levels.

In particular, he noted that the principles of sustainability and inclusiveness are included in the basis of the new National Development Plan of the Republic of Kazakhstan until 2025. According to him, the goals and objectives of sustainable development have been introduced into the documents of the State Planning System.

During his speech, the Vice Minister also informed about the progress of the initiative to open a UN Regional SDG Center for Central Asian countries and Afghanistan in Almaty.

In addition, Bauyrzhan Omarbekov spoke about the development of agglomerations in Kazakhstan, plans for the development of rural areas and the Strategy for Achieving Carbon Neutrality until 2060.

The Regional Forum brings together representatives of UNECE member governments as well as international organizations, civil society, the private sector and academia to exchange ideas and knowledge to support and accelerate progress towards the SDGs.
