Kazakhstan took part at the 68th session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna .
The exposition is dedicated to the country's contribution to the development of peaceful nuclear energy, global nuclear safety and ensuring a stable supply of uranium, El.kz reports.
IAEA Director General General Rafael Mariano Grossi, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Austria Mukhtar Tileuberdi attended the opening ceremony.
Rafael Grossi emphasized the country's significant role in global efforts to develop nuclear energy. He noted: "Kazakhstan has huge resources and is actively implementing initiatives to ensure nuclear safety, which makes it an integral part of the global development of the nuclear industry." Grossi recalled the long-term and fruitful cooperation with the IAEA, stressing the important role of Kazakhstan in hosting the Low Enriched Uranium Bank, which is an important element of international security.
Rafael Grossi also stressed the importance of the upcoming referendum in Kazakhstan, scheduled for October 6, which will be a key moment for the future of nuclear energy in the country. He said: "The IAEA stands ready to support Kazakhstan during this important period by offering safety and security programmes, as well as promoting international confidence."
In addition, the head of the IAEA congratulated the Kazakh delegation on the achievements presented at the exhibition and expressed readiness to further strengthen cooperation, especially in the framework of global efforts to achieve carbon neutrality.
Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev noted that the upcoming national referendum on the construction of a nuclear power plant is in line with the key principles of UN, such as democratic participation, self-determination, transparency and accountability. He stressed that the opinion of the people will play a decisive role in making a final decision on this issue.
