Kazakhstan’s economy grew by 4.1% in real terms in the first half of 2026. GDP output for January–June amounted to 71.2 trillion tenge , El.kz reports.

The highest growth rate in gross regional product (GRP) was recorded in Ulytau region, where the indicator increased by 15.3% year-on-year.

Turkistan region ranked second, with growth of 13.3%, followed by North Kazakhstan region, where GRP rose by 11.4%.

Meanwhile, Almaty continued to account for the largest share of the national economy. The city represented 20.2% of Kazakhstan’s total GDP in the first half of the year.

Astana accounted for 12.5%, while Atyrau region  ranked third, with a share of 11.7%.

Together, these three regions accounted for 44.4% of Kazakhstan’s GDP output in January–June.

Almaty also made the largest contribution to economic growth. The country’s largest city accounted for 0.68 percentage points of overall GDP growth.

Astana contributed a further 0.62 percentage points, while Almaty region contributed 0.47 percentage points to overall economic growth.

However, the regions with the fastest GRP growth rates differ from those making the largest contributions to the national economy. A high growth rate indicates how rapidly a region is expanding relative to its own economic base, whereas its contribution to GDP growth also depends on the size of its economy.

According to the results for the first half of the year, Kazakhstan’s total GDP amounted to 71 trillion 215 billion tenge. In real terms, the country’s economy expanded by 4.1% compared with the same period of the previous year.
