Kazakhstan has entered the top 30 most generous countries in the world,El.kz reports citing the Charities Aid Foundation.
According to analysts from Ranking, Kazakhstan ranked 30th for the first time in the World Giving Report 2025, which measures the level of charitable giving across 101 countries.
The study, conducted by the international organization Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), showed that Kazakh citizens donate an average of 1.2% of their income to help those in need.
This result allowed Kazakhstan to surpass several developed nations — including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and the Netherlands — where the share of charitable giving is significantly lower.
The highest levels of generosity were observed in countries with relatively low incomes. The top positions in the ranking were taken by Nigeria (2.8% of income), Egypt (2.5%), Ghana (2.2%), Uganda (2%), and China (2.2%). Meanwhile, wealthier nations were found at the bottom of the list — Switzerland ranked 76th, while Germany placed second to last with only 0.4%.
According to CAF, the share of people engaged in charitable activities reaches 72% in Africa, 69% in Asia, 59% in Europe, and 56% in North America. On average, 64% of the global population participates in acts of kindness.
Experts highlight three main forms of charitable giving:
– 38% of people help those in need directly;
– 36% donate through foundations;
– 25% contribute via religious organizations.
In Asian countries, including Kazakhstan, people tend to give more often through foundations (44%) and direct assistance (42%). The main purposes of donations include supporting low-income families, humanitarian aid, children, the elderly, and religious institutions
However, the charity sector also faces challenges. CAF notes that 80% of organizations struggle with a lack of funding, and nearly one-third report rising costs. Kazakhstan is no exception: experts point to public distrust of charitable foundations, fueled by scandals and a lack of transparency.
