Kazakhstan performs its 1st robotic heart surgery

For the first time in Central Asia, a robotic heart surgery has been successfully performed at the Medical Centre Hospital of the President's Affairs Administration of the Republic of Kazakhstan using a next-generation robotic system similar to those installed in leading clinics in the United States and Switzerland, El.kz reports.

The uniqueness of the operation lies in the fact that it was performed through a minimal incision of just a few centimeters, eliminating the need for traditional open-chest surgery. A 28-year-old patient with a congenital heart defect was discharged only a few days later, whereas recovery after a conventional procedure usually takes weeks.

International collaboration and consultations

As part of a major conference, leading global experts worked alongside Kazakhstani specialists, including cardiologist Olga Dzhioeva from Moscow, known for her innovative diagnostic research. Professor Jeon Yungwoo from Japan provided consultations for nine patients, applying his extensive experience from one of the world’s most technologically advanced healthcare systems.

The conference gathered a record 4,000 participants, becoming the largest medical forum in the region. The event highlighted the growing interest of the global medical community in the development of telemedicine and digital technologies in Central Asian healthcare.

Prospects for robotic surgery

The successful operation paves the way for implementing robotic systems in other areas of Kazakhstani medicine, following the global trend where such technologies have already become standard in oncology and urology. This breakthrough is especially significant for young patients, for whom minimally invasive procedures mean a faster return to active life.

According to international studies, robotic surgeries reduce blood loss by up to 80% and significantly decrease the risk of complications. By adopting the experience of countries like South Korea and Germany, Kazakhstan demonstrates its readiness to integrate into the global medical landscape.
