As part of his official visit to Switzerland, Chairman of the Majilis Yerlan Koshanov met in Bern with President of the Federal Council of Swiss Confederation, Mr. Eric Nussbaumer and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland Ignazio Cassis, El.kz reports with reference to the press service of the Majilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The Speaker of the Mazhilis stressed that Switzerland is an important political and economic partner of Kazakhstan in Europe.
"A new chapter in our bilateral relations was opened by the first official visit of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Switzerland in November 2021. In August 2021, the National Council President of Switzerland Andreas Aebi paid an official visit to Kazakhstan. I am confident that today's visit will contribute to strengthening the parliamentary dialogue between our countries," the Chairman of the Mazhilis said.
Yerlan Koshanov told Eric Nussbaumer about the implementation of the presidential course of reforms. He also informed about the work of the multi-party Mazhilis of the VIII convocation, including the adopted new laws. The Speaker of the Mazhilis reported on the interest of the Kazakh side in developing cooperation with Switzerland in the legal sphere.
In turn, the Chairman of the National Council of the Federal Assembly of Switzerland noted the importance of the reforms carried out in Kazakhstan. He also expressed readiness to deepen inter-parliamentary ties, including through the work of friendship groups.
At the meeting with the Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland Ignazio Cassis, the Chairman of the Majilis expressed confidence that the partnership between Kazakhstan and Switzerland will be strengthened in the spirit of mutual respect, friendship and trust, including through the parliaments. The parties also discussed the strengthening of economic ties between the countries.
The Speaker of the Mazhilis stressed that Kazakhstan highly appreciates the support of the Swiss side for Kazakhstan's initiatives in the international arena, primarily in the UN and its structures. An exchange of views also took place on the simplification of the Schengen visa regime for Kazakh citizens and the conclusion of a Memorandum on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters
