Shezhire in AI era: Maksat Zhabagin on preserving national digital heritageKazakhstan has joined the top 30 countries in the world with a high level of AI adoption. This data was presented during a visit by an OpenAI delegation to Kazakhstan, where a meeting was held with the Deputy PM and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, Zhaslan Madiev, El.kz reports citing the ministry's press service.
The parties discussed the development of cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence, the implementation of educational programs, the use of the ChatGPT Edu platform, and further joint projects for students, teachers, and specialists.
Kazakhstan ahead of CA countries
OpenAI representatives presented analytical data on ChatGPT usage in Kazakhstan. According to the study, the republic is among the nations with the highest level of AI technology integration.
In terms of per capita usage of the consumer version of ChatGPT, Kazakhstan significantly outperforms neighboring countries in the region. Kyrgyzstan ranks 52nd in the global rankings, while Uzbekistan holds the 58th position.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Zhaslan Madiev, the high level of public interest in artificial intelligence is already forming the foundation for the country's further digital transformation.
"Our systemic initiatives for AI development rely on the readiness of society itself. The research results reflect not only an interest in new technologies but also the development of sustainable practical skills in using AI. Citizens are already actively integrating artificial intelligence into their daily lives for learning, performing work tasks, searching for information, and creating content," Zhaslan Madiev noted.
What Kazakhstanis use ChatGPT for
The study showed that users most frequently turn to artificial intelligence for practical instructions, assistance in writing and editing texts, and information searches.
Over 42% of all messages consist of questions or requests for information. About 32% of requests are related to performing specific tasks, and another 26% are used for self-expression and creative activities.
This request structure indicates that artificial intelligence is gradually becoming an everyday tool for studies, work, and solving household tasks.
Youth have become the main driver of AI adoption
Young Kazakhstanis proved to be the most active users of AI technology.
The 18-24 age group accounts for 36.2% of all messages. Users aged 25–34 provide another 35.8% of requests. As a result, citizens aged 18 to 34 account for 72% of all activity.
At the same time, the nature of usage varies. Younger users more frequently work with texts, multimedia content, and educational tasks. People aged 25–34 are significantly more likely to use AI to solve technical and professional issues.
Additionally, the study notes nearly equal participation of men and women in the use of artificial intelligence technologies.
OpenAI expands cooperation with Kazakhstan
Head of International Education at OpenAI Valerie Faukke noted the high level of engagement among Kazakhstanis in using artificial intelligence.
"Kazakhstan is already one of the countries actively adopting artificial intelligence: the level of ChatGPT usage here is high by international standards, the youth are active AI users, and technology usage is generally evenly distributed between men and women. The next step is to help people derive even more value from artificial intelligence," Valerie Faukke stated
Today, cooperation is developing within the framework of a national project to integrate artificial intelligence into the education system. Under the program's terms, 165,000 educators across the country will receive access to ChatGPT Edu.
The technological partner of the project is Bilim Group. The company is involved in integrating OpenAI solutions into the educational system and developing methodological approaches for using artificial intelligence in schools, colleges, and universities.
