The United Nations has announced the opening of applications for the international UNAOC Young Peacebuilders programme for young leaders from Kazakhstan and seven other countries in the region.

Participants will have the opportunity to receive training from international experts, develop their own initiatives, and join a global community of young peacebuilders. All major participation-related expenses will be covered by the organisers, El.kz reports.

Applications are open to young people aged 18 to 25 from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia.

Candidates must represent youth organisations, initiatives, or civic movements and demonstrate proficiency in English.

The programme will be implemented in several stages. The application period is open till 31 July 2026. In autumn 2026, the organisers will announce the list of selected participants, followed by online training from October 2026 to January 2027.

Participants will then take part in an in-person seminar in February - March 2027, implement their own peacebuilding initiatives from March to July 2027, and attend a final symposium in summer 2027.
