Nazarbayev University (NU) has entered the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) 2025 by Shanghai Ranking for the first time, El.kz citing the press service of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan.
The Asian Shanghai Ranking is considered one of the most authoritative international tools for evaluating universities, analyzing the quality of scientific work and academic achievements across specific disciplines.
In the 2025 ranking, NU became the only university from Central Asia and is represented in three subject areas:
• Civil Engineering – ranked in the 301–400 range (first inclusion);
• Telecommunication Engineering – ranked in the 301–400 range;
• Education – ranked in the 401–500 range (first inclusion).
Shanghai Ranking’s subject lists evaluate around 2,000 universities worldwide. Key criteria include the presence of Nobel laureates, publications in Nature and Science, scientific productivity, citation impact, quality of publications, world-class faculty, international research collaboration, and other indicators.
