Kazakh PM introduces new Minister for Emergency Situations

Alikhan Smailov, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, presented the new head of the Ministry for Emergency Situations, Syrym Sharipkhanov.

Alikhan Smailov emphasized that the agency has a number of serious tasks in the field of civil protection, designated by the Head of State and the Government. The most important one at the moment is localization and liquidation of a large natural fire in Abay region.

The Prime Minister also added that in order to prevent such accidents, it is important to increase the level of implementation of preventive measures.

"You must be the coordinators of the whole process. This applies to the issues of preventing major fires, and issues related to floods. We must take all measures to prevent such major emergencies. A lot depends on how well coordinated and operative the civil protection bodies are," Alikhan Smailov said.

Syrym Sharipkhanov was born May 1, 1967, in Almaty. He graduated from the Kazan Higher Military Command and Engineering School (1991), the Civil Defense Academy of the Russian Emergencies Ministry (2002) and an adjunct of the same institution (2005), the Kokshe Academy (2015) and the Academy of the State Firefighting Service of the Russian Emergencies Ministry (2018).

In different years he held responsible positions in the Civil Defense Headquarters of Zhambyl region, the Center for Training and Education of Zhambyl Regional Department of Emergency Situations, the Republican Center for Training and Education and the Department of Civil Defense and Military Units of the Republic of Kazakhstan Agency for Emergency Situations.

From 2002 to 2005, he was deputy Head of Department of Training and Education Center of Almaty City Department of Emergency Situations of the Agency for Emergency Situations.

From 2005 to 2008, he was the head of the department of territorial and population protection of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of Almaty.

From 2008-2010, he was the Head of the Civil Defense Department of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of Almaty.

From 2010 to 2013, he was Deputy Chief of the Kokshetau Technical Institute of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan, and from 2013 to 2021, he was the Head of this institution.

From 2021 to the present time, he was the Head of the Academy of Civil Defense named after Malik Gabdullin of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan

In 2016 he was awarded the Order "Aibyn" II degree.
