The debut film of Kazakh director Aruan Anartai "Joqtau" was included in the competition program of the international Locarno Film Festival,El.kz reports citing the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The Swiss Film Festival is one of the largest and one of the top 5 most influential venues in the global film industry. The 77th Locarno Film Festival will take place from 7 to 17 August 2024. Each competition film will be screened up to five times at the festival's 10 venues.
The film in the genre of a road movie tells the audience about a journey through the steppe and the Kazakh outback. The main characters will have to test their beliefs and values for strength. Especially for the film "Joqtau", composer Sanjar Baiterekov wrote instrumental music with the central part of the Kazakh national instrument kobyz. The film was shot with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the report says.
