Kazakh Bentley owners are selling their vehicles at price of a Chinese car

Premium British coupes have appeared on Kazakhstan’s secondary automotive market at prices comparable to those of new entry-level Chinese vehicles, El.kz reports.

The Illusion of Affordable Luxury

A white first-generation 2007 Bentley Continental GT has been listed for sale in Almaty. The owner has priced the two-door coupe, equipped with a 6.0-litre petrol engine, at KZT 8,000,000.

Although the vehicle’s model year reflects its age, it is equipped with the highest specification available for its production period. For a model that was once regarded as a symbol of prestige and social status, the asking price appears relatively modest.

Even lower-priced offers are available. Another 2007 Continental GT is listed at nearly half that amount, with the seller explicitly noting the vehicle’s high mileage and the need for substantial bodywork repairs.

By comparison, this price level is broadly equivalent to that of a new entry-level Chinese compact sedan. At a similar cost, buyers can acquire a premium all-wheel-drive vehicle with an automatic transmission instead of a basic urban passenger car.

Number of Bentley Vehicles Offered for Sale in Kazakhstan

A total of 66 Bentley vehicles are currently listed on the domestic secondary market. The overwhelming majority are pre-owned, while only a limited number are offered as new vehicles.

The Continental GT accounts for the largest share of listings, with more than 20 vehicles available. The Flying Spur ranks second, followed by the Bentayga.

Factors Driving the Wide Price Range

The upper end of the market presents a markedly different picture. A 2016 Bentley Bentayga is currently listed at KZT 55,000,000, several times the asking price of older Continental GT coupes.

According to owner reviews, well-maintained Continental GT models generally command prices starting at approximately KZT 18,000,000. Vehicles requiring significant investment are typically offered at substantially lower prices, placing the KZT 8,000,000 Almaty listing within this category.

The principal factor influencing pricing is the powertrain. The twin-turbocharged 12-cylinder engine delivers exceptional performance but typically consumes more than 20 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres under urban driving conditions. Maintenance and repair costs for such an engine are considerable, and prospective buyers commonly factor anticipated future expenditures into price negotiations.

Implications in the Context of the New Vehicle Market

At present, KZT 8,000,000 is sufficient to purchase a new Chinese crossover in its base specification. Consequently, a British luxury coupe and a newly manufactured mass-market vehicle now occupy a similar price segment.

While the difference in prestige and market positioning between these vehicles remains substantial, the gap in acquisition cost has narrowed significantly. For consumers considering the purchase of a pre-owned premium vehicle, current market conditions provide a clear indication: a low asking price for a Bentley is more likely to reflect anticipated maintenance and operating costs than an exceptionally advantageous purchasing opportunity.
