President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke at the II republican forum of deputies of maslikhats of all levels, El.kz reports.
In his address, Tokayev noted the increase in the number of women in representative bodies and stressed that their proposals, in matters of protection of rights are supported by the state.
The President also noted that citizens have more opportunities to participate in the political process.
As a result of the reforms, maslikhat deputies now have the right to elect akims of regions and cities of republican significance on an alternative basis, and also received other powers that allow them to influence the executive branch. Tokayev stressed that responsibility for the social well-being of the regions is now divided between maslikhats and akimats. He also reminded the deputies of the need to fulfill their duties in accordance with the interests of the people and at the proper level.
