Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with President of Asian Development Bank Masatsugu Asakawa who arrived in Astana to participate in the 23rd Ministerial Conference of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation, El.kz reports with reference to Akorda.
At the meeting, Tokayev congratulated Asakawa on the 30th anniversary of the successful partnership between Kazakhstan and ADB. The Head of State noted the strategic importance of cooperation with the bank, which covers the implementation of major infrastructure projects and support for the financial system of Kazakhstan.
From 1994 to 2024, ADB financed projects in the country worth about $7 billion, including the construction of the Western Europe – Western China International Road Corridor and the reconstruction of the Aktobe-Kandyagash road.
Tokayev expressed interest in further cooperation in priority areas, such as liberalization of the economy, improvement of the investment climate and decarbonization. Masatsugu Asakawa reaffirmed ADB's readiness to support Kazakhstan's efforts in infrastructure modernization and sustainable development
In addition, during the visit, it is planned to sign an agreement on the allocation of more than $300 million to finance the construction of the Kyzylorda-Zhezkazgan highway, which will be the next step towards strengthening the country's infrastructure base.
