Shezhire in AI era: Maksat Zhabagin on preserving national digital heritageAstana hosted a presentation of Japanese companies specializing in green technologies and CO₂ emission reduction, El.kz reports.
The event brought together over 120 Kazakhstani companies from various regions across the country.
Why Tokyo arrive in Astana
The occasion for the event was the visit of the Governor of Tokyo, Yuriko Koike. The Japanese side brought five startups selected under the city's "Green Transformation" program - an initiative supporting companies that deliver reductions in carbon emissions.
"Together, we can solve all the complex challenges facing humanity and move toward prosperity together," Governor of Tokyo, Koike Yuriko stated while opening the networking portion of the event.
She also introduced Japanese venture companies working in digital transformation, renewable energy, and artificial intelligence.
What Kazakhstan hopes to gain from this cooperation
"For Kazakhstan, Japan is not just an important economic partner. We associate this country with technological leadership, a high culture of quality, and a strategic vision for the future," a representative of KAZAKH INVEST Aliya Abdildina said.
Hydrogen, energy storage, and energy-efficient infrastructure were named as key priorities.
One of the first tangible results is a framework agreement for the construction of a 1 MW power plant - a project that has undergone verification under the G7 carbon credit mechanism. By 2029, the country intends to attract approximately $400 bln in investment, with a 25-year guarantee of stable conditions for investors.
"Kazakhstan today offers a stable macroeconomic environment and a steady investment climate, as confirmed by international agencies," Abdildina emphasized.
According to her, KAZAKH INVEST acts as a "single window" for investors at all stages from initial contact to operational support.
Technologies brought by the Japanese side
"These companies are not just involved in startup innovations, they are making real changes and helping the environment by preventing pollution," Okano, a representative of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government explained.
Each of the five companies covers a specific niche: drone logistics, solar and wind energy, carbon credit trading, and bioenergy.
"Drones will reduce exhaust emissions because they are lighter and faster, operating without traffic jams this has a very positive impact on the environment," Okano noted as a practical example.
According to him, all five companies share a single goal: to reduce CO₂ emissions through specific market solutions rather than mere declarations.
Introduction, not just agreements
"Formal agreements are not on the agenda for today. This is an introductory session, a presentation of leading Japanese companies in the field of green energy," clarified Murat Karimsakov, Chairman of the Foreign Trade Chamber of Kazakhstan.
According to him, the primary value lies in direct contacts, which are difficult to establish from a distance.
"Kazakhstan is currently very active in developing nuclear energy - a decision has been made to build a series of nuclear power plants," Karimsakov reminded, highlighting the nuclear industry, green energy, and transport and logistics infrastructure as key areas for cooperation with Japan.
"We are confident that today's event will provide a certain momentum," Karimsakov added. The Kazakhstan-Japan Economic Cooperation Committee is already actively working, with the next meeting scheduled for later this year.
