Artificial intelligence has learned to write like a human therefore it is so important to tell the difference,El.kz reports.
Why this is a problem today
AI generated texts have been flooded the internet in recent years. They are posted on social media, used in educational materials, presented as expert opinions, and even in academic settings. It's become harder to trust what is written.
Example:
You open an article titled “The Future of Kazakhstan’s Economy” and see a confident, text with no author, no sources, and no doubts. It reads smoothly, but there is no way to verify the information.
What scientists have found
Researchers decided not to guess a text’s origin but to analyze its internal structure. They examined which characteristics most often appear in AI-generated texts.
This is not about the words, but about a way of thinking reflected in the writing.
Example:
Two texts may be grammatically correct, but one reflects a living process of thought, while the other sounds like a structured report with no emotion or pauses.
Sign one: overly complex syntax
AI generates long sentences with clarifications and connectors. Sometimes the idea has to be “untangled” for understanding. Humans write like this too - but rarely.
Example:
“In the context of the transformation of global economic processes characterized by multifactorial influence, one can observe…” - the meaning gets lost.
Sign two: confidence without doubt
AI-generated text often sounds categorical. It contains very few formulations typical of natural speech.
AI cannot be used to manage certainty because certainty itself is a myth.
Example:
“This method is the only correct solution to the problem” - with no alternatives, or context.
Sign three: lacking substance
AI spends a long time explaining why the topic is important, but delays getting to the facts.
As a result, the reader gets tired before receiving any real information.
Example:
Three paragraphs about the importance of technology for humanity - and not a single concrete example, figure, or event.
Repetition that’s hard to notice at first sight
AI often rephrases the same idea several times, creating the illusion of depth.
Initially, the text feels full, but a more careful reading reveals otherwise.
Example:
“It is important to understand this,” “this aspect should be taken into account,” “this factor cannot be ignored” - the meaning is the same but have a different sound.
A simple guide for the reader
You don’t need special knowledge to detect an AI-generated text. What matters is mindful reading.
Example:
If after reading a paragraph you can’t summarize its main idea in one sentence, the text is likely generated.
Why detectors are needed
AI detectors try to find text that looks like it was generated by an AI writing tool. This reduces the risk of being accused.
Example:
An editor doesn’t just see “this is AI,” but a list of indicators - complex syntax, repetition, excessive certainty - and makes the decision independently.
