Half of Kazakhstan's researchers are women

Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan spoke about the role of women in national science

Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek took part in the International Scientific Conference on the theme: "Family,demographic and gender policy at a new stage in the development of Kazakhstan", El.kz reports with reference to the press service of the department.

Within the framework of the conference, which takes place in Astana, the Minister spoke about the role of women in domestic science.

"Half of Kazakhstan's researchers are women. They are 54% of the total number of scientists, and every year it becomes more and more. In general, the role of women in science has grown. As an example, biologist Kunsulu Zakarya, who developed the QazVac vaccine against the coronavirus. As the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, we will fully support the policy of gender equality, promote and ensure equal access to science, higher education, including managerial functions, namely women", – the Minister said.

The opening ceremony of the international scientific conference was also attended by Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration, Chairman of the National Commission on Women's Affairs and Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aida Balayeva, UN representatives, scientists and experts. Experts noted that this year Kazakhstan improved the indicators on gender equality of the World Economic Forum and rose from 80th (2021) to 65th place (2022).
