Government of Kazakhstan implements 16 priority projects in water sector

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Nurlan Baibazarov announced large-scale plans to restore the water management system of Kazakhstan,El.kz reports with reference to Primeminister.kz.

The floods in the spring demonstrated weaknesses in the country's water infrastructure. In this regard, the government will implement 16 projects that require investments worth 500 billion tenge.

Funds for the implementation of these projects are planned to be attracted with the help of concessional financing from the Islamic Development Bank. Financing will be provided for a long time at a low interest rate, which will effectively solve the accumulated problems.

The renewal of the water management system includes the construction of new reservoirs and irrigation canals, as well as the strengthening of technical infrastructure. First of all, a complete renewal of equipment and means in the system of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and Kazvodkhoz will be carried out.

Nurlan Baibazarov stressed that funds in the amount of more than 200 billion tenge aimed at updating forestry and water management, as well as the emergency system, will be used from the Zhasyl Damu Fund.
