Google has launched Nano Banana 2, its latest Gemini image model, promising faster image generation with upgraded intelligence, better text rendering and stronger creative control, El.kz reports citing Interesting Engineering.
The new system, officially called Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, combines the speed of Gemini Flash with the higher-quality reasoning and world knowledge previously available in Nano Banana Pro with the aim to deliver studio-level visuals without sacrificing speed.
Nano Banana first gained traction last year after going viral for its image editing and generation capabilities. A more advanced Pro version followed months later, offering improved factual grounding and creative precision.
With Nano Banana 2, Google says it is merging both strengths into a single, faster model for broader use.
The model pulls from Gemini’s real-world knowledge base and can use real-time information and images from web search to render specific subjects more accurately.
That expanded context allows it to generate infographics, convert notes into diagrams and create data visualizations with improved reliability.
Flash speed meets fidelity
Nano Banana 2 focuses heavily on speed without compromising image quality. Google says it dramatically narrows the gap between fast generation and visual fidelity.
The model introduces improved subject consistency, allowing users to maintain character resemblance of up to five characters and preserve the fidelity of up to 14 objects within a single workflow.
Instruction following has also been upgraded. The system adheres more strictly to complex prompts, aiming to capture nuanced requests rather than loosely interpreting them.
Users can control aspect ratios and resolutions from 512 pixels to 4K, making it suitable for vertical social media posts or large-format displays.
Text rendering and translation are another major focus. Nano Banana 2 generates legible, accurate text for marketing mockups, greeting cards and design prototypes.
It can also translate and localize text directly inside images, supporting global content workflows.
Tools across Google ecosystem
Nano Banana 2 is rolling out across multiple Google platforms. It replaces Nano Banana Pro within the Gemini app’s Fast, Thinking and Pro modes. Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers will still have access to Nano Banana Pro for specialized tasks.
