From the runway to army: Former fashion model serves in armed forces

Once a familiar face on international runways, Shyngys Tanatpayev used to showcase clothing by renowned fashion brands to audiences around the world. Today, wearing military uniform, he is a member of the National Guard.

Shyngys Tanatpayev, a serviceman of Military Unit No. 5451 in Karaganda, began his modelling career at the age of 17. His height and distinguished appearance led him into the fashion industry and opened the way to intl runways. He modelled for the renowned French fashion house Pierre Cardin and the Italian brands Federico Barrazzo and Sauvage Multi, and took part in fashion shows held in various countries around the world.

Following a successful career in the fashion industry, Shyngys chose military service.

At first glance, modelling and military service may appear to be entirely different fields. However, they share a number of essential qualities - discipline, composure, responsibility and self-confidence. While a model must be able to carry themselves with ease and confidence on the runway, military service requires a responsible approach to every action and the precise execution of assigned tasks.

The private is currently contributing to the maintenance of public safety in the city of Karaganda. Every day, he performs his military duty with distinction, helps maintain public order during mass events and in crowded public places.

In the course of his service, he interacts directly with members of the public and assists them in a range of situations. He has helped locate missing children and reunite them with their families, as well as recover and return valuable belongings lost by local residents.

Shyngys’s life journey demonstrates how a person who has achieved success in one field can adapt to a new environment and responsibly carry out the duties entrusted to them. A young man who only recently appeared on fashion runways now contributes to maintaining public order and ensuring the safety and security of society.
