The possibility of introducing a four-day workweek in Kazakhstan has been legally established since 2015, El.kz reports.
This was confirmed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. According to Shalkar Orazbekov, head of the Labor and Social Partnership Department, the Social Code adopted in 2023 also specifies rules that allow for the implementation of a four-day workweek.
“In the event of a four-day workweek being introduced, the salary will be calculated proportionally to the amount of work performed. That is, if working hours are reduced, the salary will also be reduced accordingly,” Orazbekov said at a briefing at the Central Communications Service under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
At the same time, he emphasized that the employer has the right to maintain the previous salary level despite the reduction in working days. This does not contradict the Labor Code and is not considered a legal violation.
