Food prices continue to show a positive trend in Kazakhstan

Food prices for a number of socially significant food products decreased in Kazakhstan over the past week. The most significant decline was recorded for onions, which fell by 5.1%, El.kz reports citing the Bureau of National Statistics of Kazakhstan.

As of 16 September 2026, potatoes ranked second in terms of price decline, with their price decreasing by 3% over the week. The price of carrots decreased by 2.4%.

The price of white cabbage decreased by 2.3%, while apple prices fell by 1.1%.

Sugar prices decreased by 0.7%. Prices for cottage cheese and chicken decreased by 0.4%.

At the same time, prices for bread, pasta products, beef, mutton, chicken cuts, milk, sour cream, sunflower oil, butter, salt and tea remained unchanged over the week.

Cities where prices decreased

At the regional level, a decrease in the overall price level for socially significant food products was recorded in several cities.

In Zhezkazgan, the indicator decreased by 0.3%, while in Semey it declined by 0.2%. In Taldykorgan, the decrease amounted to 0.1%.

In Astana, Aktobe, Atyrau, Kokshetau, Konaev, Oral, Pavlodar, Petropavlovsk and Turkistan, prices remained at the level recorded in the previous week.

Where onions, potatoes and carrots are cheaper

The average price of onions in Kazakhstan was KZT 149 per kilogram. The lowest price was recorded in Pavlodar, at KZT 119 per kilogram.

The average price of potatoes nationwide was KZT 211 per kilogram. The lowest price was also recorded in Pavlodar, at KZT 135 per kilogram.

The average price of carrots was KZT 222 per kilogram. The lowest price for this vegetable was recorded in Pavlodar, at KZT 140 per kilogram.

The national average price of tomatoes stood at KZT 620 per kilogram. The lowest prices were recorded in Taraz, at KZT 378 per kilogram, and in Atyrau, at KZT 396 per kilogram.

The price index for socially significant food products is calculated on a weekly basis. Price monitoring is conducted in all regional centres, cities of republican significance, and the capital city.

The list of socially significant food products was approved by Order of the Minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan dated 23 December 2025 and comprises 31 food product categories.
