The Embassy of Kazakhstan together with the “Kazakhstan-Lithuania” inter-parliamentary friendship group held a round table in the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, dedicated to political reforms in Kazakhstan, El.kz cites MFA.
The event was attended by the Chairman of the Economics Committee Kazys Starkevičius, representatives of various factions and committees of the Lithuanian Parliament.
Ambassador of Kazakhstan Viktor Temirbayev spoke about the constitutional reform’s practical implementation, political and economic transformations in Kazakhstan, as well as the preparations for the upcoming early presidential elections in our country.
Kazakh diplomat informed the Lithuanian parliamentarians about the laws signed by the Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on November 5, 2022 that allow, among other things, to consolidate the status of the Commissioner for Human Rights, to move Kazakhstan to a mixed electoral system, to introduce the election of akims of districts and cities of regional significance.
The participants of the event exchanged views on innovations in the electoral system of Kazakhstan, measures taken to ensure the holding of free and transparent presidential elections and other issues.
Kęstutis Masiulis, Member of the Public Administration Committee, highly appreciated the transition of our country from a super-presidential to a presidential republic with a strong parliament. According to him, Kazakhstan shows a positive example to neighboring countries in this matter.
Edmundas Pupinis, Chairman of the “Kazakhstan-Lithuania” inter-parliamentary friendship group noted that the amendments made to the Constitution and subsequent reforms will ultimately have a positive impact on the well-being of all Kazakhstanis.
In conclusion, the parliamentarians noted that political transformations in Kazakhstan, as well as the development of the Kazakh-Lithuanian political dialogue, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties between our countries will constantly be in their field of vision.
