Shezhire in AI era: Maksat Zhabagin on preserving national digital heritageElon Musk has stated that, in the long term, SpaceX could be valued at over the combined value of all tangible assets on Earth. According to him, such a scenario is achievable if the company successfully implements its long-term space exploration and development strategy.
The statement followed a social media post by entrepreneur Peter Diamandis. He noted that the total value of all tangible assets on Earth is estimated at approximately USD 600 trln and suggested that access to extraterrestrial resources could substantially expand the economic potential of companies operating beyond Earth.
Why space resources matter
Diamandis emphasized that outer space contains vast reserves of metals, minerals, and other natural resources. In his view, the future extraction and utilization of these resources could fundamentally reshape the global economy.
Responding to the post, Musk noted that he had previously stated that SpaceX could one day be worth more than the total value of Earth’s assets if the company achieves its strategic objectives. He added that he considers this outcome to be entirely plausible.
Remarks on investors
During the discussion, Musk also commented on companies and investment funds that have taken short positions against SpaceX. He stated that, in his opinion, such market participants are unlikely to maintain those positions successfully over the long term.
As a privately held company, SpaceX does not have a market valuation established through public stock exchange trading. Musk’s remarks therefore refer to the company’s potential future valuation and are contingent upon the successful implementation of its long-term strategy focused on space exploration and development.
