E Kazakhstan region sets 2 world records for Kazakh handicrafts

The international festival "Gasyrlik Dasturler" was held in the East Kazakhstan Region as part of International Family  Day.

During the event, two world records in the field of national decorative and applied arts were officially registered by Global Best of Records, El.kz reports citing the regional Akimat's press service.

The highlight of the festival was the inclusion of the "Alaman Kurak - 2026" project into the Global Best of Records. The project, based on the traditional Kazakh art of patchwork (kurak), received world-record status and international recognition.

As part of the record-breaking project, "Zhylky" decorative pillows, each 60 centimeters wide, were presented to the public. These national-style items feature the horse one of the primary symbols of freedom, strength in Kazakh culture. A total of 788 pillows were crafted by artisans, an achievement that was also officially entered into the Global Best of Records.

The Governor of the East Kazakhstan region Nurymbet Saktaganov noted that the development of folk crafts and the preservation of cultural heritage are vital priorities for the region.

"Our region has always been famous for its rich cultural heritage, ethnic diversity, and careful preservation of traditions. Today, we are paying special attention to supporting artisans, developing creative industries, and creating conditions to pass these skills down to the younger generation," the head of the region emphasized.

At the conclusion of the festival, all the handmade pillows were donated to the children of the "Umit" orphanage.

The organizers noted that the project aims not only to popularize national values but also to promote Kazakh decorative and applied arts on the international stage. Festival guests were able to see a modern interpretation of traditional art and discover new ways of preserving national heritage.
