E-commerce volume in Kazakhstan reaches 3.2 trillion tenge

As part of the international summit “Access to Logistics and Business through E-Commerce,” held in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Director of the Department of Electronic and Exchange Trade of the Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Galiya-Banu Meirbayeva, delivered a presentation highlighting key achievements in the field of digital trade. She also provided updates on current initiatives and plans for the upcoming period, El.kz citing the Ministry’s press service.

The Kazakh side emphasized that the development of digital trade is a strategic priority aimed at modernizing the economy, expanding export potential, and strengthening regional integration. It was noted that the implementation of digital solutions, including artificial intelligence and virtual assistants, significantly enhances the efficiency of foreign trade operations and improves the quality of customer service.

Kazakhstan has demonstrated remarkable growth in the e-commerce sector: over the past five years, e-commerce volumes have increased sevenfold, reaching over 3.2 trln tenge, accounting for 14.1% of total retail trade.

The potential for further growth is immense: Kazakhstan boasts high digital accessibility, a developed fintech infrastructure, and over 8 mln active users—primarily youth. The country has set an ambitious goal: within five years, one in every five purchases should be made online. To support this, a comprehensive E-Commerce Development Plan was approved in March of this year. The plan prioritizes improving legislation, launching educational initiatives for the population, introducing financial support measures for entrepreneurs, and developing modern logistics infrastructure, Meirbayeva noted.

Special attention is being paid to consumer rights protection and ensuring a level playing field for all market participants. During her speech, Meirbayeva also highlighted Kazakhstan’s engagement on international platforms such as the WTO, UN, SCO, and EAEU, focusing on simplifying cross-border trade and creating a favorable digital environment. In this context, particular emphasis was placed on the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation in the Field of E-Commerce between the Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Commerce of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in April 2025—a key step toward strengthening bilateral strategic partnership.

Kazakhstan expressed confidence that exchanging experiences and developing joint solutions within the framework of the Summit would contribute to building a more resilient, inclusive, and interconnected regional trade architecture. The Ministry of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan reaffirmed its commitment to openness, technological progress, and the strengthening of international cooperation to ensure economic growth and improve the well-being of people.
