“Digital conscription” and “smart military enlistment office”: What Kazakhstan’s autumn 2026 conscripts can expect

The autumn conscription campaign has commenced in Kazakhstan. Approximately 23,000 citizens are expected to be drafted for compulsory military service by the end of December, El.kz reports.

Who is subject to conscription this year

The conscription applies to men aged 18 to 27 who are not entitled to a deferment or exemption from compulsory military service. Draft commissions at the city and district levels have already commenced their work across the country.

More than 12,000 conscripts are expected to be assigned to the Armed Forces, accounting for more than half of all autumn conscripts.

The remaining conscripts will be distributed among several government agencies. Approximately 7,000 recruits will be assigned to the National Guard, around 3,000 to the Border Service of the National Security Committee, while the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the State Security Service will collectively receive several hundred additional conscripts.

Digital military enlistment offices

Registration for military service upon a change of residence is now carried out automatically. The registration of 17-year-old males and the processing of certain deferments and exemptions have also been automated.

Conscripts can view all information concerning their status through their personal account on eGov. This helps reduce the need to visit military enlistment offices in person, at least during the information-gathering stage.

Benefits provided by compulsory military service

In addition to military training, service personnel are provided with training in civilian occupations. During their service, they can acquire one of 20 vocational qualifications free of charge, including driver, communications specialist, paramedic and excavator operator.

A separate measure is available to those who have outstanding loans. Loan repayments are deferred for the entire period of compulsory military service, relieving service personnel of this financial obligation during their service.

There is also an incentive for those planning to pursue further education. Following completion of military service, individuals may be admitted to a higher education institution on a government-funded educational grant without taking the Unified National Testing (UNT). For many, this serves as a significant incentive to undertake compulsory military service.

The autumn conscription campaign will continue until the end of December and will cover all regions of Kazakhstan. Of the approximately 23,000 conscripts, the majority will be assigned to the Armed Forces, while the processes for military registration and access to relevant benefits are increasingly being transferred to a digital format.
