Striking compositions for the majestic double bass will be presented to the audience on July 14 at the concert In the Bass Key, and beautiful melodies for the gentle flute, elegant and graceful piano and soaring tenor and soprano voices will be performed on July 17 at the Music of July Evenings concert.

On July 14, the double bass section of the Astana Opera Symphony Orchestra will demonstrate the sound of the largest of all orchestral instruments in the concert program In the Bass Key. Double bassists Sabit Dairov, Anatoliy Yakushkin, Baurzhan Shakayev, Yermek Sarsembayev, Makhambet Zhargakov, Daulet Uderbayev, Nurlan Dvessov, Batyrkhan Khassenov will perform works for the lowest voice from the string family. Together with the section’s musicians, their colleagues will also take the stage – violinist Ilyas Zhidebai, violist Akhmet Sultanov, oboist Rakhmatali Bekbabayev, clarinettist Almaz Tokpanov and pianist Meruert Zhekenova. Works by a classic of the double bass school, one of the most outstanding double bass virtuosos Giovanni Bottesini and other great composers such as Handel, Piazzolla, Dittersdorf, Brumby, Prokofiev, Petrov and others will be featured this evening.

“We have been holding concerts of double bass music for the third year in a row, they attract a lot of attention, are popular among listeners, and have already become a good tradition. In addition, such projects form the tastes and perception of the audience, since at our opera house residents and guests of the capital have the opportunity to listen to not only the recognized ‘queen of the orchestra’ violin or the piano, but also to such an interesting, unique, singular instrument as the double bass,” Sabit Dairov, Astana Opera’s principal double bass, Madeniyev Salasynyn Uzdigi, emphasized.

“It is very important for the artists of our section to show all the facets of our beloved instrument, all its capabilities. After all, the double bass not only serves as the foundation of the orchestra’s sound, a support for all other musicians, so that the work has harmony and cohesiveness, it is an equal partner in both symphonic and chamber formats. Therefore, the concert participants will not only take the stage with solo works, but also in various ensembles for two or more double basses, as well as with violin, viola, oboe, clarinet and piano. We feel a special responsibility in anticipation of this performance, so we are meticulously preparing, spending a lot of time rehearsing in order to give the audience a rich palette of emotions and impressions,” Sabit Dairov said.

In addition to double bass music, this month viewers will also have the opportunity to listen to masterpieces by Western European composers performed by flute, piano and academic vocals – soprano and tenor. Thus, on July 17, Music of July Evenings will be offered to the audience by Astana Opera soloists Ulpan Aubakirova and Sayan Issin and the opera house’s instrumentalists – flautist Balzhan Saparova and pianist Gulshan Konusheva. The rich concert program includes vocal and instrumental works by Gaubert, Taffanel, Doppler, Poulenc, Schumann / Liszt, Gounod, Mascagni, Tosti, and other authors.

“When we decided to hold a concert in the middle of July, it became clear that this should be the kind of music that the audience would be pleased to listen to on a warm summer evening. Therefore, we will perform works that are classical in form and content, and at the same time easy to comprehend. Fantasies for flute and piano, piano and vocal works are designed to immerse us, performers and listeners, in a light atmosphere of relaxation and love. We hope that the viewers will enjoy the concert, and who knows, perhaps, filled with the spirit and aroma of the music we performed, they will continue the evening in a summer café with a cup of coffee, discussing the upcoming vacation,” Gulshan Konusheva, Astana Opera’s accompanist, Honoured Artist of Kyrgyzstan, shared.

Artist of the opera house’s symphony orchestra, flautist Balzhan Saparova noted that the joint concert with Gulshan Konusheva was the realization of a long-time dream. Their friendship goes back to the years of studying at the Moscow Conservatory and living in a student dormitory together.

“I believe that it is we, musicians, who must guide and uncover everything new for listeners, enrich their inner world, cultivate their sense of beauty, and help develop people’s creative abilities. Music primarily affects our senses, mind, emotions, and even the physical body. Therefore, we approached the preparation of the program with all seriousness. As for me, first of all I wanted to showcase all the magic of my instrument, while at the same time taking into account the mood of the lightness of a summer evening. Thus, I chose romantic, virtuosic, exquisite fantasies, which are the “cherry on the cake” for the performer and require a certain level of skill. These works were written by composers and virtuoso flautists – the Austro-Hungarian classic Doppler and the Frenchman Taffanel. Gulshan Konusheva chose for this summer evening works on the theme of love by Poulenc and Schumann / Liszt,” Balzhan Saparova said.

“In order to further interest the audience and diversify the concert, we invited our wonderful soloists Ulpan Aubakirova and Sayan Issin, so the program will feature musical works of various eras and styles. We are looking forward to this day and want to immerse listeners in delightful melodies. I hope that the audience will receive the aesthetic pleasure that we want to give, will be imbued with the warmest, brightest and most reverent feelings, that the delight of the soul will push them to return quickly to the opera house to find themselves again in an atmosphere of beauty,” the artist concluded.
