In December, engrossing productions await the audience at Astana Opera that will give the viewers a truly festive mood. Bright ballet Cinderella, which will performed on December 29, 30 and 31, draws particular attention, El.kz cites astanaopera.kz.
The beloved fairy tale was staged in a modern interpretation of the German choreographer Raimondo Rebeck.
Raimondo Rebeck, the author of the libretto and choreographer, known in our capital for the ballet productions Beethoven – Immortal – Love and How Long Is Now?, rethought the classic Cinderella story. In this version, the heroine appears as a young girl who dreams of fulfilling her potential as a designer in the high fashion world. The prince also takes on a modern look: he is a musician who combines the talents of a composer and a DJ.
This interpretation makes the fairy tale easily understandable and relatable for viewers of different ages, and humour and unexpected solutions will help to look at familiar imagery from a different perspective. One of the most striking ideas in terms of set design was the fairy tale’s new symbol – a carriage in the form of an elegant stiletto shoe, symbolizing the world of high fashion.
On different days, exciting debuts will take place in the ballet performances. Thus, Honoured Worker of Kazakhstan Yerkin Rakhmatullayev and Dias Kurmangazy will perform the Prince for the first time. Honoured Worker of Kazakhstan Anel Rustemova will debut as the Stepmother, and Aidan Kalzhan will take the stage for the first time as the Fairy.
“It is a great joy and at the same time a significant responsibility for me to perform the Prince in the ballet Cinderella for the first time. This character is incredibly close to the modern viewers, because our Prince is a young man passionate about music and creativity, a man of his era. Even though this role specialization is very close to me, as I have performed princes in many productions, but working on this part became a new benchmark for me. In my hero I had to combine classical romance and the energy of today. I am grateful to the opera house’s artistic management for the opportunity get in contact with this truly interesting interpretation. There is a lot of humour and new meanings here. Therefore, I sincerely hope that the viewers will feel the magic and the holiday that we strive to embody onstage,” Yerkin Rakhmatullayev, the ballet company’s principal dancer, Honoured Worker of Kazakhstan, noted.
The production is based on Sergei Prokofiev’s immortal music, supplemented by works by the legendary Jimmy Durante, Billy Ray Cyrus and Louis Armstrong. The Astana Opera Symphony Orchestra will perform under the baton of People’s Artist of Kazakhstan, the opera house’s conductor Abzal Mukhitdin.
In addition, on December 26 and 27, the opera house has prepared an equally exciting production: César Cui’s fairytale opera Puss in Boots awaits the young guests.
