Center for Turkic cultures inaugurated in Warsaw

The International Conference on Turkic Studies was held at Warsaw University with the support of the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Poland, El.kz cites Kazakh Foreign Ministry.

The conference gathered representatives of academic authorities, diplomatic missions and cultural organisations from Poland, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Uzbekistan and a number of other countries, becoming a platform for discussing the historical and cultural heritage of Turkic peoples, as well as prospects for further cooperation.

The guest of honor at the event was Aktoty Raimkulova, President of the International Fund for Turkic Culture and Heritage.

Particular interest among the participants was sparked by a presentation by Kazakh professor Mukhit-Ardager Sydyknazarov on “Historical Cartography and the Historical Geography of the Kazakh State and Turkic Countries from the 9th to the 19th Century: Documentary Sources.”

The conference also featured the opening of an exhibition entitled «The Turkic World on Ancient Maps», which presented unique cartographic materials reflecting the evolution of geographical perceptions of regions inhabited by Turkic peoples.

Following the conference, an Agreement was signed to establish the Center for Turkic Cultures at the Department of Turkology and Central Asian Peoples, endorsed by the President of the Fund for Turkic Culture and Heritage and the University of Warsaw.
