At Kazakhstan’s initiative, UN General Assembly proclaims International Day of Greening the Planet

The United Nations General Assembly has adopted a resolution initiated by the Republic of Kazakhstan titled "International Day of Greening the Planet," officially proclaiming April 22 as the International Day of Greening the Planet.

The initiative to establish this International Day was put forward by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during the general debate of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in September 2025.

The resolution was co-sponsored by 32 states representing various regions of the world, highlighting the relevance and global demand for this initiative within the international community.

The adoption of the resolution reflects Kazakhstan's consistent contribution to advancing the global environmental agenda and uniting international efforts toward environmental protection, ecosystem restoration, the expansion of green spaces, and the cultivation of an ecological culture.

The document is designed to raise global awareness about the importance of greening and restoring natural ecosystems. It also encourages member states, the UN system, international and regional organizations, civil society, and other stakeholders to organize relevant events and initiatives.

The establishment of this International Day aligns with Kazakhstan's ongoing nationwide environmental campaign, "Taza Qazaqstan" (Clean Kazakhstan), which focuses on fostering a responsible attitude toward the environment, and enhancing the environmental culture of society.

The adoption of the resolution marks the practical implementation of another international initiative by the Head of State. It reaffirms the relevance of Kazakhstan’s approach to strengthening multilateral cooperation in the interests of sustainable development and preserving the environment for future generations.
