Astana hosts exhibition dedicated to birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

As a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 153rd Birth Anniversary, the Embassy of India in Astana is hosting a photographic exhibition titled "Mohan Se Mahatma" (Mohan to Mahatma) at the prestigious Baiterek gallery, El.kz learned from the press service of Embassy of India.

The exhibition will be inaugurated on 30 September 2022 and remain open for public viewing till 5 October 2022.  The event is being organized as part of the ongoing celebrations for the 75th Anniversary of India’s Independence and the 30th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Kazakhstan.  The occasion becomes significant as the Baiterek is also celebrating its 20th Anniversary this year.

Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology enlightened India as well as the world.  In 2007, the UN passed a resolution to declare 2nd October, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, to be observed as International Non-Violence Day.  Mahatma Gandhi was a pivotal figure in India's freedom struggle, which was based on the principle of nonviolence. Mahatma Gandhi is one of the universally recognized personalities of the world. Principles of Mahatma Gandhi such as truth, non-violence, inter-faith harmony, democratic values, sustainable environment, social welfare etc. are of universal nature.  Many countries have busts and statues of Mahatma Gandhi at iconic locations. In Kazakhstan, a life-size statue of Mahatma Gandhi was installed in Almaty in the year 2003.  

The exhibition “Mohan Se Mahatma” is a pictorial journey of the life of this great icon of the world.  The 32-photograph exhibition was curated by the Gandhi Research Foundation based in the State of Maharashtra in India.  Gandhi Research Foundation is engaged in activities promoting the ideals and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi.  The bust of Mahatma Gandhi will also be on display during the period of the exhibition. This exhibition is aimed to acquaint the people of Kazakhstan with the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. The exhibition will be inaugurated jointly by Ms. Shubhadarshini Tripathi, Ambassador of India to the Republic of Kazakhstan jointly with Mr. Adil Orynbasaruly, Director, Baiterek on 30 September 2022 at 3 pm.
