Astana to host international Taekwondo Tournament Kazakhstan Open 2025

From August 14 to 16, Martial Arts Palace named after Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov will host one of the most anticipated sports events of the year — the Kazakhstan Open 2025 international ranking taekwondo tournament (WT) of the G-1 category.

The tournament is officially included in the World Taekwondo calendar and will bring together over 750 participants from 22 countries, El.kz reports citing the press service of the Kazakhstan Taekwondo Federation (WT).

The competition will include three age categories: cadets, juniors, and seniors. Among the athletes are top taekwondo practitioners from Afghanistan, Canada, India, France, China, Saudi Arabia, the USA, and other nations, including athletes competing as Individual Neutral Athletes.

For the first time in nearly a decade, Kazakhstan is once again in the international spotlight in the world of taekwondo. Previous G-1 tournaments were held in Almaty in 2015 and Atyrau in 2017.

Kazakhstan Open 2025 marks the country’s return to the map of major sporting events, and its significance will be further enhanced by the participation of Olympic champions and world-class titleholders.

High-ranking guests are expected to attend, including Chungwon Choue, President of World Taekwondo, the head of the Asian Taekwondo Union, and members of the World Taekwondo Council.

“Hosting Kazakhstan Open in Astana is our contribution to strengthening international sports dialogue and developing taekwondo in Kazakhstan. The tournament will unite top athletes, inspire the younger generation, and help our country make its mark on the global stage. We are grateful to all our partners and international bodies for their trust,” Kudret Shamiyev, President of the Kazakhstan Taekwondo Federation said.

The total prize fund for the tournament is 15,808,000 tenge.
