On April 23, Astana will host the first international sustainable fashion show, the Green Runway Fashion Show. The event will take place as part of the RES 2026 EXPO and will bring together designers from Central Asia and Azerbaijan, El.kz reports.
The show is set to be one of the exhibition’s key cultural highlights. This marks the first time regional fashion will be presented through the lens of sustainable development on an international platform focused on "green" technologies and ecology.
Fashion and nature in one space
The main feature of the show will be its scenography. Organizers plan to create a "living space" using plants and natural elements to emphasize the deep connection between fashion and the environment.
This format reflects a new industry approach that centers on the fusion of aesthetics, environmental responsibility, and the region's cultural heritage.
Designers from Across the Region
Leading designers from several countries will participate in the show.
Each participant will showcase a collection of 10–12 looks. The collections will revolve around three concepts: reimagining traditional costumes using natural materials, creating clothing from recycled resources, and incorporating natural elements and prints, including rare plant species.
A Platform for Dialogue
Organizers view the show not only as a fashion event but also as a professional platform. It is designed to facilitate a dialogue between designers, environmentalists, investors, and government representatives.
The focus is on the development of sustainable fashion and creative industries in the region. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss prospects for cooperation and the implementation of eco-friendly solutions within the industry.
Scale of the Exhibition
RES 2026 will take place in Astana from April 22 to 24. The exhibition is expected to be one of the largest international platforms in the field of sustainable development.
Approximately 300 companies from 30 countries are expected to participate, with organizers forecasting more than 20,000 visitors. Around 1,500 delegates, including representatives from government, business, science, and international organizations, are planned to attend the summit.
The initiative to hold the forum was proposed by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
