ASTANA CITIZENS FAREWELL WINTER TOGETHER AND HAVING FUN ON THE LAST DAY OF MASLENITSA – FORGIVEN SUNDAY

In the House of Friendship of Astana, citizens celebrated Maslenitsa – a holiday of farewell to winter and meetings. It was believed that the rituals held in Maslenitsa help to overcome the winter in spring.

Traditionally, pancakes are baken for Maslenitsa festival, all the people apologize to each other for all the grievances caused over the past year.

In the course of the event, a fair, a festive concert by creative groups, mass festivities, entertaining contests and competitions, traditional pancake treats, as well as, at the end of the event, the stuffed dummy of Maslenitsa was solemnly burned near the House of Friendship.

As noted by the organizers, such events form respect for the culture and traditions of all ethnic groups, strengthening social accord and national unity, inter-ethnic consent in the society.
