Nazarbayev University hosted sessions of the Forum of Presidents of the Alliance of Asian Universities (AUA) entitled: "Formation of Higher Education in a Changing Asia: Creation, Integration and Innovation", El.kz reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhtan.

The forum was attended by the leaders of 15 member countries of the Alliance, including leading universities in China, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

At the opening ceremony of the forum, the participants were greeted by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Nazarbayev University Alikhan Smailov. He called the forum an excellent platform for discussing topical issues of higher education, developing a common vision and creating new opportunities for further fruitful cooperation within the Alliance.

Speaking at a panel session on the tasks of higher education, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek stated the importance of developing universities at the same speed as modern processes. As an example, he cited the "accelerated universities" that have appeared in different parts of the world over the past decades.

“I think that one of the main directions in the development of education in Asia is the model of "accelerated universities", where the state, through politics, resources, attracting talents, accelerates the path that Western or ancient, traditional universities have been going through for centuries

Nazarbayev University is an excellent example of such accelerated development, which is already bearing fruit today. Also an example is the Korean University UNIST and many other Asian universities. Research universities in Asia can establish themselves as very strong, combining research and quality teaching," said Sayasat Nurbek.

At the end of the sessions of the AUA Forum 2023, the Alliance members agreed to further improve the quality of higher education in Asia by strengthening partnerships, promoting academic excellence and innovation.
