Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Irini Haralambidou met with the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Cyprus Satybaldy Burshakov, as a special coordinator for monitoring the early parliamentary elections to be held in Kazakhstan on March 19, 2023, El.kz reports with reference to the press service of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.
At the meeting, Irini Haralambidou noted the participation of a large number of OSCE PA members as observers, which reflects the high interest in the elections in the country.
"Mr. Burshakov mentioned the important reforms promoted by the President of Kazakhstan regarding the electoral process in the country, in light of the tragic events that took place in January 2022. In particular, he referred to reforms aimed at introducing measures to increase women's representation, reducing the electoral measure and the conditions for the creation of new parties. He also touched upon the issues that dominated the current election campaign," the report said.
It is also noted that Irini Kharambidou thanked Satybaldy Burshakov for the information and assured him that the OSCE always seeks to make a contribution to the study of compliance by all participating States with the democratic commitments undertaken.
